Philadelphia 76ers: 25 Best Players To Play For The 76ers
By Phil Watson
Chet Walker was a three-time All-American at Bradley, averaging more than 26 points and 12 rebounds per game as a senior, but slipped to the second round in the 1962 NBA Draft, where the Syracuse Nationals gladly grabbed him.
Walker was an All-Rookie selection in 1962-63 and after the Nationals moved to Philadelphia in 1963, he earned three All-Star appearances.
He was a standout in the 1967 NBA Finals, averaging 23.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 34.8 minutes per game, shooting 45.1 percent from the floor and 77.4 percent from the line in a six-game win over the San Francisco Warriors.
In September 1969, the 76ers traded Walker and Shaler Halimon to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Jim Washington, receiving Bob Kauffman as a player to be named later in May 1970.
In seven seasons in Syracuse and Philadelphia, Walker averaged 16.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.6 minutes per game, shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 73.9 percent at the foul line.
Walker was a four-time All-Star with the Bulls, leading the NBA in free-throw shooting in 1970-71, retiring in November 1975 after a serious knee injury.
He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.
