No. 1: Solomon Hill — 4 Years, $52 Million

As Adrian Wojnarowski reported for The Vertical, Solomon Hill agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Despite being worth the lowest annual money of any deal on this list, Solomon Hill slots in as the No. 1 most overpaid player of free agency for the simple fact that he hasn’t done much of anything in three seasons.

Hill embodies what everyone is talking about when they say they have to Google players’ names who are receiving multi-million dollar NBA contracts (and by the way, it wasn’t just DeAngelo Williams who did that).

Hill is entering his fourth year in the NBA and needless to say he hasn’t exactly lit it up over the first three. His career averages sit at a putrid 6.0 points, 1.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. That is atrocious for someone who is making $13 million per year for the next four seasons.

Hill will be the Pelicans’ third-highest paid player next year, behind only Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, and just above Tyreke Evans.

Maybe there is some hope that since Hill is fairly young, he’ll be worth this contract. But again, the theme of the players on this lists is it’s an awfully big risk to pay a guy for what he might do rather than what he’s done.

For a guy whose numbers are so miserably underwhelming, $52 million is an awfully big commitment. Thus, Solomon Hill is our most overpaid player of 2016 NBA free agency so far.
