NBA Orlando Summer League: Random Thoughts, Day 2
Los Angeles Clippers squad
Brice Johnson and Diamond Stone are going to be solid options for the Clippers … if they can stay out of foul trouble. Day 2 saw Johnson drawing a Flagrant 1 foul and Stone fouling out, period (Summer League players are allowed 10 fouls, instead of the six in the NBA).
Otherwise, the Clippers squad put up a lackluster performance over two games. The first game saw them getting smacked by the Miami squad; the second, they dropped to the Thunder squad.
This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the Orlando Summer League (the Clippers are not playing in Utah or Las Vegas).
Players are stuffing stat sheets; and if you’re hustling for a roster spot in the fall, then I get it.
But making it to the regular season is about more than dropping a 20-piece ever game; it’s about teamwork, because you likely won’t be dropping 20 every night–unless it’s in the D-League or overseas.
I can’t see most of these rosters providing any type of respite for a Clippers team that seems to be still trying to figure itself out, and needs to make major moves (read: a deep run in the playoffs) to even think of retaining 2017 free agents Blake Griffin and Chris Paul.
Pray for the Clips, y’all.
