NBA Orlando Summer League: Random Thoughts, Day 2
Oklahoma City Thunder squad
Cameron Payne and Mitch McGary are definitely making their presence felt in Summer League this year.
They should be able to come off the bench for OKC and produce steady minutes this upcoming season.
A sleeper this summer is Josh Huestis, who was drafted 29th overall by the Thunder in 2014 and became the NBA’s first domestic draft-and-stash. He (along with McGary) played most of his NBA career with the OKC Blue.
He’s breaking out in Orlando, providing defense for the Thunder squad (he’s averaged five rebounds per game so far) and setting up his teammates. He needs to work on shooting, but this season may be the one to see him crack the rotation off the bench for the Thunder.
With Kevin Durant leaving for the Golden State Warriors, the Thunder will need every ounce of help they can get to continue to contend in the bloodbath that is the Western Conference.
These three players, along with new additions Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis (son of Blazers legend Arvydas Sabonis and the No. 11 overall pick in the 2016 draft), should help Russell Westbrook keep OKC relevant.
Sidebar: Sabonis is not playing in the Summer League because he is playing for the Lithuanian national team in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
