3. Guarantee Spencer Dinwiddie

Next year could be a bridging year for the Chicago Bulls. Jimmy Butler is going to run this team like he used to when Derrick Rose was injured.

He will, however be doing this from his customary shooting guard role.

This will leave the point position available to whoever puts their hand up and wants it the most.

The Bulls have Calderon, Grant and Spencer Dinwiddie who was just traded from the Detroit Pistons to vie for that position and this means that they will have some good competition between them.

More from Hoops Habit

Calderon has one year left on his contract, I can see Chicago burying him in the bench unless they really need some ball movement.

Grant was the future at New York, but now that he has been traded to Chicago, I think that he will be the future in Chicago. He needs a chance to show what he can do without the intense gaze of a Carmelo Anthony looking at him.

Anthony is a good team leader but wants to win now, which is fair enough. In Chicago, there will be no such legends of the game pressuring Grant so he can learn and develop with the team.

Dinwiddie should certainly be Grant’s backup. He has been starved of playing time in Detroit due to Reggie Jackson taking the lions share of minutes but with a  young team looking to establish their identity, I can see Dinwiddie playing more of a role in this.

Chicago just needs to guarantee his contract so that he can play with the assurance of where the next paycheck is coming from.
