Chicago Bulls: Evaluating The Acquired New York Knicks
Jerian Grant
Jerian Grant is certainly who most fans seem to be excited over.
The second-year guard averaged 5.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game during his rookie year.
Drafted at No. 19 overall by the Washington Wizards last summer, he landed in New York after being traded from the Atlanta Hawks for Tim Hardaway Jr.
As a college player at the University of Notre Dame, had a strong rookie season: he averaged 12.3 points and 4.9 assists per contest, being named to the Big East Conference All-Rookie team.
He further developed his second year, making second-team All-Big East after putting up 13.3 points and 5.5 assists a matchup. He ran into some trouble in 2012-13, after he as ruled academically ineligible and was forced to withdraw from both the team and the university.
But he came back swinging and came back that next year, helping his team make it to the Elite Eight in NCAA Tournament. He averaged 16.5 points and 6.7 assists a game that year.
But so far, Grant has not gotten much of a chance in this league.
Although he has played in76 games (and actually started six of them), he averaged 16.6 minutes a contest. This led to an average of 5.6 points and 2.3 assists per matchup.
However, in the month of April, he hit double-digit point games in four out of five contests, including scoring 18 points, six rebounds, six assists, a block and two steals against the Indiana Pacers. And he does come from a line of winners.
His uncle Horace Grant actually won four championships between playing for Chicago and the Los Angeles Lakers.
If molded correctly, Grant could definitely be a solid option for the Bulls down the line. However, the problem there lies in the fact that lately, this organization is not exactly known for shaping young talent very well.
Here is hoping that he has a solid enough head on his shoulders to not be distracted by all of the nonsense that seems to go on behind the scenes with this front office.
