Picks Owned: 1, 24, 26

The Philadelphia 76ers are on the clock in the 2016 NBA Draft after winning the NBA’s draft lottery. The Sixers have a difficult decision of drafting Simmons or Ingram, who both have a lot to offer.

Simmons, 19, is a player with more of an inside game. He uses his athleticism to get easy looks in the post and at the rim. He is also a solid defender that can defend multiple positions and rebounds well. He has one of the highest upsides in the draft.

Ingram, on-the-other-hand, is a scorer that can create shots for himself and has good range. He has a good defensive base, thanks to his athleticism and NBA length, but that end of the court is where he will need to grow the most.

The 76ers can’t go wrong with either player, but the fact that they are looking to trade either Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor, according to ESPN.com‘s Marc Stein and Chad Ford, says that the Sixers are looking at Simmons over Ingram.

Okafor was the third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and had a successful season, but NBA executives believe that Noel and Okafor can’t co-exist, according to Philly.com‘s Bob Cooney.

Philly has plenty of assets to gain another top five pick in this year’s draft, if they want. They could package Noel or Okafor with the 24th and/or 26th overall picks to move up into the draft.

The Sixers have an opportunity to build a core of players through this draft, and it starts with their first overall selection. They need to decide who their core players are going to be and trade away the players who aren’t in their future plans. Philadelphia needs to move forward, beginning with this draft and turn their focus towards developing their young talent.
