Teams Coached: Golden State Warriors (2011-14)
Career Record: 121-109 (.526)
Postseason(s) and Record: 2 appearances, 9-10 (.474)

Mark Jackson was in a difficult situation when he was hired as the Warriors head coach. The franchise had only been to the playoffs once in a 17-year span. He turned the team around and led them to two playoff appearances in three years during his tenure. In his third season as head coach he led the team to their first 50-win season since the 1993-94 season (20 years).

  • Jackson, 51, vowed to turn the Warriors into a better defensive team and establish the franchise as a perennial playoff threat, according to ESPN.com. The Warriors thanked Jackson for his services in getting them elevate the team’s position from where they were.

Owner Joe Lacob compared Jackson’s hand in the process to a business structure in that he was the right man at the right time, but felt the Warriors needed new direction to reach a championship level.

Jackson is being considered by the Kings for their coaching vacancy, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. The Knicks also reportedly reached out to Jackson, but Frank Isola of the New York Daily News says the Knicks deny reaching out to Jackson.

Jackson will have plenty of opportunities to get back into the coaching world, but like Van Gundy, he already has a good gig at ESPN as a color analyst for their NBA coverage.
