Postseason(s) and Record: 1 appearance (2015 NBA Finals), 14-6 (.700)

David Blatt was hired to lead a Cleveland Cavaliers team that was set to feature Kyrie Irving and first overall pick Andrew Wiggins. He led the team to the NBA Finals in his first season as a NBA head coach and did so with injuries to Irving and Love as the playoffs moved along.

  • Blatt, 56, was fired on Jan. 22, while the Cavs were leading the Eastern Conference with a 30-11 record. His firing brought controversy due to how well the team was doing and the fact that he was hired to coach a different team than what he had. Cavs GM David Griffin said that he fired Blatt due to “a lack of fit with our personnel and vision,” according to ESPN.com.

Whether his firing was fair or unfair is up for another debate. Blatt can coach, as evident by his success as a coach in the Israeli League, where he won five championships and four Coach of the Year awards.

Blatt’s best bet may have been with the Nets. Blatt has previously coached in Russia, the native land of Nets’ owner Mikhail Prokhorov. With their position filled, Blatt will have to look elsewhere if he wants to find another job in the NBA.
