Injury Notes

For the Dallas Mavericks the key will be how the Mavericks’ starting backcourt of Wesley Matthews and Deron Williams responds against Phoenix, even with their playing time being closely monitored.

If either of them sits for the second of the consecutive games, backup guards Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and perhaps preseason surprise John Jenkins could provide ROI as low-cost fillers.

Promising rookie Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers was probable for Wednesday’s contest against Toronto, so his availability for the following night bears monitoring as the Grizzlies’ frontcourt of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph will have a field day underneath the basket if center Ian Mahinmi is the lone rim protector for the home team.

The Atlanta Hawks’ Thabo Sefolosha is reportedly not playing vs. the New York Knicks. After just one game, the void left behind at small forward from DeMarre Carroll’s departure is already becoming a problem, as Marcus Morris had a career day for the Detroit Pistons with no one on the Hawks’ end to stop him. Knicks’ SF Carmelo Anthony will be licking his chops for this one.

Arron Afflalo, expected to get a fresh start with the New York Knicks, missed Wednesday’s game with a hamstring issue.

Afflalo is a solid defender and his absence would give the Hawks’ Kyle Korver a chance to bounce back from his ugly game in the opener against Detroit (seven points on 3-of-9 shooting in 29 minutes), as Sasha Vujacic just doesn’t inspire as much fear among opposing 2-guards.

Elite Options ($10,001+)

None of the FanDuel players on Thursday night cost more than $10K, so this could be an opportunity to fill your lineup with two or three decent players, as there are a number of low-cost players who could return value from this shortened slate.
