21. Dale Ellis

Dale Ellis became an All-Star on the strength of his shooting stroke. He could get to the basket in his early years, but Ellis’ bread and butter was beating his opponent with his range and soft touch.

With over 1,700 3-point field goals made during an era when the 3-point shot was not nearly as important as it is today, Ellis easily makes this list.

Ellis is a worse free throw shooter than most players on this list, but he was remarkable from mid-range and beyond the arc. His form was beautiful, both curling off of screens and going up off the catch.

The one thing that was almost guaranteed: even if his form started out with a hitch, Ellis would right it mid-shot and find nothing but the bottom of the net.

It’s hard to compare players of different eras given how the significant increase in the importance of the 3-point shot. What Ellis proved during the 1980s and 1990s, however, was that he could shoot with the best of the best.

Evidence: at the age of 37, Ellis made 127 3-point field goals on a league-best 46.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
