Golden State Warriors: 5 Adjustments For NBA Finals Game 3
2. Cast Off The Three-Point Yips
Green going 0-for-4 from downtown in this series after being praised all season long for developing a respectable three-point shot is just the tip of the iceberg. If the Warriors want to win this series and silence all the stupid, outdated “live by the three, die by the three!” pundits, they’ll need to start making the shots they normally make — even the ill-advised ones that are suddenly being critically labeled as “bad shots.”
In Game 1, the Dubs went a respectable 10-for-27 from downtown (37 percent). But in Game 2 that percentage plummeted to 22.9 as the Warriors converted only eight of their 35 attempts (an NBA Finals record). Stephen Curry was an abysmal 2-for-15 from downtown, setting an NBA Finals record for most missed three-pointers in a single game.
Even Klay Thompson, who was the only good thing about Golden State’s offense in Game 2, went 4-for-12 from downtown. Harrison Barnes went 0-for-4. The Dubs got a ton of great looks from long range; they just couldn’t buy a bucket from three-point territory.
In Game 3, with their backs against the wall, the Warriors really need to cast off these recent three-point yips and do what they’ve done all season long: knock down open looks from long range.
