Rick Barry was past his prime when he signed a free agent contract with the Houston Rockets and left the Golden State Warriors.

Barry, who had been a shooter/scorer most of his career, developed as one of the best passing forwards in his short-stint in Houston, averaging nearly seven assists per game in his first season with the Rockets. Barry was far from the player he was early on in his career, the player who averaged 35 points per game in 1966-67.

To his credit, the game was changing, becoming more athletic, and Barry did his best to keep up, despite battling lingering injuries later in his career. Barry found a way to have an impact by changing his game. Not all superstars can do that.
