NBA Power Rankings, Jan. 9 Edition: A New Face At The Top

11. Atlanta Hawks (19-17)
Last Week: 1-3
Previous Ranking: 11
Guaranteed Money: The contracts of Shelvin Mack and Mike Scott are guaranteed for the rest of the season, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While the deadline for guaranteeing contracts is Friday, if a team hasn’t requested waivers on a player by Tuesday, the contract would become guaranteed because of the 48-hour clock for clearing waivers. Since Scott and Mack were not waived by the Tuesday non-deadline in front of the deadline, their money for the rest of the season is secure. But Scott said, “It feels pretty good but I’m not going to get comfortable. “I’m not going to be satisfied. I’m going to continue to play hard, work hard, come in every day and continue to be a professional.”
The Week That Was: The Hawks lost to the Warriors 101-100 on Friday, lost at Chicago 91-84 on Saturday, lost at Brooklyn 91-86 on Monday and beat the Pacers 97-87 on Wednesday.
