The Dallas Mavericks had another unimpressive free agency, leaving many fans confused and disappointed. Here are 3 takeaways from the 2019 offseason.

Before the start of free agency, the Dallas Mavericks were linked to All-stars like Al Horford, Kemba Walker and Nikola Vucevic. And like previous years, for better or for worse, the Mavs signed none of them.

Initially, Dallas was going to be the third team in the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade to the Miami Heat. At first, it was reported that the Mavs would be willing to take on the expiring contract of Goran Dragic.

Dragic might have been coming off a season in which he played only 36 games due to a knee injury, but he is still a legitimate starter and also has a history with the Mavericks Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic. Later it was revealed that Dallas would instead take on Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr. in the trade before the deal ultimately fell apart.

With the Mavs focused more on acquiring a player through the Butler trade, they ultimately lost out on free agent point guard Patrick Beverley. Beverley re-signed with the LA Clippers without talking with Dallas.

Another veteran player the Mavericks were connected to was Danny Green. Green spent most of free agency waiting for Kawhi Leonard to make a decision. He ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Lakers over the Mavericks, whose salary cap space went to waste without any big-name signings.

With all the misses that happened in free agency, it was ultimately another disappointing free agency. However, they still managed to retain key restricted free agents like Kristaps Porzingis and Dwight Powell.

Dallas could still explore a trade to add a starting-caliber player, but it might not come until after the start of the regular season. Here are 3 takeaways from the 2019 offseason.
