The Philadelphia 76ers look set to become big players in this summer’s free-agency market. But a recent revelation appears to indicate who they will be targeting this offseason.

Despite posting just a 23-40 record, the Philadelphia 76ers have taken major strides forward this season. Most notably, they have unearthed a possible future mega-star in center Joel Embiid.

Although he has now played just 31 games over three seasons, the hope Embiid has given the franchise and fans alike has been priceless.

Another success has been the recent play of rookie Dario Saric. He has excelled recently, particularly in the absence of Embiid. Over his last 11 games, Saric has averaged 19.4 points and 8.4 rebounds in 30.1 minutes per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field.

The Sixers have also started to fix up their logjam in the frontcourt with the trade of center Nerlens Noel.

Relegated to a backup role while Embiid was on the floor, the Sixers’ ability to obtain a first-round pick and swingman Justin Anderson in return for a player deemed as superfluous was a positive move going forward.

However, the major disappointment this season, aside from the frustration of Embiid’s continued injury issues, has been the complete absence of last year’s No.1 overall pick, Ben Simmons.

Simmons was injured during the Sixers’ preseason and was forecast at the time to be sidelined for up to three months. But recent scans indicated that the Jones fracture Simmons had sustained had not healed as initially hoped. He was subsequently ruled out for the entire season.

Nevertheless, these obstacles have not diminished the Sixers’ faith in Simmons.
