One of the storylines from the NBA during the offseason was the number of mediocre players who were rewarded with sizable contracts.
Let’s start with Timofey Mozgov. He averaged 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 76 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2015-16 campaign. But in 13 playoff contests, those numbers plummeted to just 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
In spite of his meager production, however, he signed a four-year, $64 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Another such example is Evan Turner, who inked a four-year, $70 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Sure, he averaged 10.5 points per outing with the Boston Celtics last season, but does that kind of production warrant such a large contract? Probably not.
