We have reached the portion of the summer where the presence of valuable free agents is a rarity. With the exception of J.R. Smith, there simply aren’t high value free agents on the market. But a player like the recently released Kendall Marshall could still make a positive impact on a team.

Marshall has bounced around the league a lot in his young career. The trade to the Utah Jazz marks the sixth time in his career the young point guard has changed teams. After being drafted 13th overall in 2012, it’s unlikely he envisioned his career going this direction.

Marshall’s best season came in 2013-2014 with the L.A. Lakers. He averaged 8.0 points and 8.8 assists per game while shooting 39.9 percent from three. His ability as a passer has always been his calling card dating back to his days at North Carolina.

While he isn’t capable of creating his own shot, his ability as a passer and as a solid three point shooter should warrant a spot on an NBA roster.

At this point, it’s fair to say Marshall would not be a “high-upside” signing for a team. That being said, he could still make a meaningful impact for a team in need of consistent play at backup point guard. Here is a look at some of his best fits around the league.
