The point guard position could be one of the most difficult positions in sports to rank. Here, we take a look at the top-10 heading into the 2016-17 season.

The point guard position in the NBA has easily become the deepest position not only in terms of superstar players, but just talent in general. The game has undergone a ton of change the past few years, as playing smaller, quicker lineups has become the norm.

But having a productive point guard can now be as important as a quarterback in the NFL–if your team doesn’t have a good one, chances are that team struggles to garner wins on a consistent basis.

The New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers are prime examples teams who were out-matched in pretty much every game because of their lack of production at point guard.

Like the game as a whole, point guards aren’t what they were like back in the 1990s and even the early 2000s. Now, they are expected to be consistent scorers and decent rebounders, all while setting up teammates in their effective spots on the floor.

That’s not to mention that if they’re even just average defensively, the likelihood of them being exposed by the other great players at their position around the league is quite high.

Ranking these players, especially at the top of the list, is extremely challenging. The 2015-16 season helped a few guys climb the ladder and input their names in the top five of this list.

If the 2016-17 season holds anything quite like last season did, making an argument for point guard being the most exciting position in all of sports wouldn’t seem crazy whatsoever.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the top 10 point guards heading into next season.
