Matthew Dellavedova is getting paid next season, either by the Milwaukee Bucks, who have plans to give him an offer sheet worth $38.4 million over four years, or by the Cleveland Cavaliers if they decide to match it.

Matthew Dellavedova is proof that hard work and determination really does pay off. It’s been a really good month for Dellavedova: First he won an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers, then he was given a qualifying offer by Cleveland so that they could keep their options open of retaining him.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, the Milwaukee Bucks brought forth a $38.4 million offer sheet Friday Given Cleveland’s salary cap situation, they most likely will not match it. Dellavedova is now on the way to Milwaukee with a little bit more green in his back pocket, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN, who was then backed up by David Aldridge.

More from NBA Free Agency

Dellavedova went un-drafted in 2013, playing his way into the last playing slot for the Cleveland Cavaliers through NBA Summer League, despite the fact that he was a finalist for the Bob Cousy award for the best guard in college.

Delly has played the last three seasons on single year contracts. I don’t think you will hear him complaining, since he won a championship because of it.

Now the Milwaukee Bucks have come calling with a contract that makes all the hard work and sacrifice of moving away from your home country and family worth while.

Milwaukee has shed the contracts of O.J. Mayo and Greivis Vasquez, and they have more space. Combined with the explosion of the salary cap, Dellavedova will be the first of many that they sign.

What Dellavedova brings to the Bucks is aggressive defense, a high percentage three-point shot (41 percent last year) and extremely good ball handling with a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio.

Dellavedova’s 7.5 points and 4.4 assists per game were career highs and without LeBron James, Kyrie Irivng and Kevin Love around, these numbers should go up again.

Milwaukee has Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is a 6’11” point guard, but with Dellavedova on the floor, they will have multiple ball handlers and better on-ball defense.

Dellavedova also has that championship ring and the ability to step up in big games. I am not sure if Milwaukee plans on starting Dellavedova, since they do still have Michael Carter-Williams to run the point.

However Milwaukee decides to play Dellavedova, he will give it all he’s got, night in and night out. He now has a new floor to lose skin on when diving for the loose ball.
