Ricky Rubio has been a divisive player among NBA fans over the last few years. His brilliant passing and strong defense is frequently overshadowed by concerns over his inability to consistently knock down a three-point shot as well as finish at the rim.

In a modern NBA offense, there is becoming less room for a player with little ability to space the floor, especially at the point guard position.

Being able to draw in defenders to create opportunities for others is such an essential trait for a point guard to have and some of Rubio’s ability to do that is minimized by him not being a consistent threat.

By drafting Kris Dunn with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves have signaled that Rubio being a key part of their future is unlikely.

While he wasn’t traded on draft night, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team was making a conscious effort to ship him out of town.

Despite the warts on his game, the fact remains that Rubio is still a very effective player and a top-20 point guard in this league. While his supporting cast has been lackluster, his defensive and play-making are huge assets that a lot of teams could benefit from.

The Wolves’ offense was six points per 100 possessions better with him on the court last year and their defensive rating was plus-2 with him on the court.

With that in mind, let’s look at some of the best fits for Rubio in a trade that would allow him to have success as a player.
