Last June,Phil Jackson took an educated gamble, picking Kristaps Porzingis with the 4th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. What a success that was. With no picks in the 2016 draft, here are 5 roster moves the New York Knicks need to make

After the 2014-15 season, the New York Knicks needed something this year, especially for their fans. Carmelo Anthony had knee surgery and the Knicks finished the season 17-65.

Phil Jackson followed his well-honed basketball instinct and drafted Kristaps Porzingis, much to the dismay of the New York fan base.

Needless to say, the 20-year-old from Latvia has turned out to be a future cornerstone of the franchise. With his shooting, his defense and especially his put-back dunks, Porzingis is showing not only how good he is but also how good he will be.

New York also restocked the cupboard in free agency. landing Robin Lopez and Arron Afflalo from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Unfortunately for New York, they had one of the worst backcourts in the Eastern Conference. At the point Jose Calderon is a defensive nightmare. Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant are too green.

Grant is the way of the future, but with Anthony turning 32 before the start of next season, New York need a good point guard now to bring it back to relevance.

Afflalo added some class to the back court but there is still work to do to get the shooting guard position up to the standard to compete with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks in the East.

Here are five roster moves they need to make to get them back into the Playoffs.
