Phoenix Suns Rumors: After delivering some harsh words about the Suns front office, it seems that Goran Dragic had a change of heart after a talk with then-head coach Jeff Hornacek.

Phoenix Suns rumors in the coming weeks will undoubtedly revolve around the NBA Draft, where the Suns will be busy with three first-round picks. But, the most recent rumor goes back to last season prior to the NBA trade deadline and involves former point guard Goran Dragic.

It was no secret that the relationship between Dragic and the Suns was strained, at best. Dragic went as far as to declare in February 2015 that he would not re-sign with the Suns.

Dragic reportedly wanted the freedom and support to run an offense, which he wasn’t being given in Phoenix.

The Suns were undermining Dragic, as they had Eric Bledsoe next to him before adding Isaiah Thomas as a free agent. That put Dragic and head coach Jeff Hornacek in a weird position, as he had to find a way to get all three players the minutes they desired.

As a result, he went with some three-point guard lineups that weren’t very successful.

In the process, Dragic said that he no longer trusted the Suns’ front office, and the two parties would eventually be parting ways. He didn’t have to wait until the summer for that to happen, as the Suns front office blew things up.

More from Phoenix Suns

Dragic was traded away to the Miami Heat, while Thomas was traded to the Boston Celtics. But, it sounds like that may have been a drastic move by the Suns front office.

According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, Hornacek took it upon himself to mend some fences with his starting point guard in Dragic.

That is exactly what he did according to a person familiar with the situation, as Hornacek supposedly got a commitment from Dragic that he would re-sign with the Suns as a free agent that summer.

"Within days of Hornacek having a heart-to-heart with Dragic and securing a commitment from the Slovenian point guard to re-sign with the Suns as a free agent the following summer, the Suns shipped him to Miami in a three-team trade, a person familiar with the situation told CBS Sports."

There is no denying that the team would have looked different with Dragic running the show next to Bledsoe than Brandon Knight, whom was acquired in a separate trade at the 2015 trade deadline.

It also led to a landslide of events that has resulted in the Suns landing the No.4 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and Hornacek being fired.

Hornacek was left blindsided by the trade of Dragic, according to Berger, and had the same feeling when the team signed Tyson Chandler as a free agent as a way to try and lure LaMarcus Aldridge to the desert.

That plan backfired, as the Suns blew up their roster in hopes of landing Aldridge only to see him sign with the San Antonio Spurs. It was not long before Hornacek was undermined once again with two of his assistants being fired.

Hornacek was not far behind, as he was fired on Feb. 1, with the Suns owning a record of 14-35.

While keeping Dragic may not have saved Hornacek’s job, or kept the Suns out of the lottery, it is an interesting bit of information to give a different perspective to the trade. Is a future first-round pick from the Heat better than what Dragic would have given them?

We will have to wait and see how things turn out.
