After Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinals series, the Oklahoma City Thunder were largely counted out by everyone. The San Antonio Spurs were a 67-win juggernaut, they had just smashed OKC by 32 in the opener and it was easy to start speculating about Kevin Durant‘s free agency decision.

And yet, four games later, the Thunder are heading back home to Chesapeake Energy Arena with a 3-2 series lead and the chance to close out a legitimate championship contender.

What the Thunder have done in this series has been nothing short of remarkable. They’ve weathered the early LaMarcus Aldridge storm, they’ve beaten San Antonio on the road twice in close games and they’ve bested the Spurs in back-to-back games.

Keep in mind, the Spurs only lost once at home during the regular season, and before this series, they had only lost back-to-back games once during the entire 2015-16 campaign. Bearing that in mind, the Thunder would do well to close this thing out in Game 6 and avoid having to win a brutal Game 7 on the road.

Against a Western Conference power that won as many games this season as the defending champion Golden State Warriors did last year, the Thunder still have work to do. Here’s what OKC needs to do in Game 6 to pull off the upset and advance to the conference finals.
