The Dallas Mavericks are approaching another interesting summer. Take a look at who they should pursue and who they should avoid during free agency.

The Dallas Mavericks are going to have lots of options once free agency gets under way on July 1. With six players set to become unrestricted free agents, and three more likely to opt out of their current contracts, the team will be facing another summer of uncertainty.

Since winning the championship in 2011, the team has gotten used to the annual process of bringing in a new wave of talent while losing a few key players from the season before.

Whether it was single years with players like O.J. Mayo and Tyson Chandler or summertime deals involving players like Jose Calderon, the Mavs have failed to stay consistent with their roster, which has impacted the chemistry of the team.

This summer could be the last chance the franchise has to build another contending team around Dirk Nowitzki before he retires. After failing on players like Deron Williams in 2012, Dwight Howard in 2013, Carmelo Anthony in 2014 and DeAndre Jordan in 2015, Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and the rest of the front office will reload in an attempt to make a big free agency splash in preparation for Nowitzki’s retirement.

Though there will be some intriguing options on the market this summer, the Mavs shouldn’t chase after just anyone. Let’s go through each position and take a deeper look at who they should take a look at and who they should avoid.

Since some decisions won’t be made until after the season is over, we will only be looking at unrestricted free agents.
