Since the Indiana Pacers were eliminated from the 2016 NBA Playoffs on May 2, speculation has persisted that the team would part ways with head coach Frank Vogel. Many refuted the rumors as blasphemous prisoner-of-the-moment claims, but the reports grew in ubiquity as the week progressed.

In his annual end-of-the-season press conference, team president Larry Bird announced that the Pacers would not be extending Vogel’s contract when it expires in June.

That announcement concluded a progressive decision that shocked the masses. No one was more shocked by the decision than Vogel himself.

That’s as brutal a way to be fired as any.

Whether or not Vogel should’ve been relieved of his duties, the Pacers must find a new head coach to lead the team. Indiana is in a unique position with one of the best players in the NBA—Paul George—on the roster, but that doesn’t make this decision any easier.

The question is, who should Bird and the Pacers hire to be Vogel’s replacement?
