Alex Len has seen his fair share of obstacles early in his NBA career, but the Phoenix Suns center is starting to put it all together in 2015-16.

Ever since the Phoenix Suns first drafted Alex Len with the fifth overall pick in 2013, it’s been one hobbled step forward and two limps backward with his development. Or at least, that’s what the fans would lead you to believe after Len played a grand total of 42 games his rookie season despite being selected ahead of prospects like Nerlens Noel and Ben McLemore.

While Len has been unable to prove himself to the larger NBA community as being deserving of a top-five selection through his first two and a half years in the league, those who have been paying closer attention to his development are starting to see regular signs of the potential that general manager Ryan McDonough envisioned nearly three years ago.

Len has seen his fair share of obstacles that have prevented him from cementing his place among the league’s most promising young bigs, and his season averages of 7.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 20.0 minutes per game don’t scream “superstar.” But even in the middle of a lost season, it looks like he’s on the cusp of finally busting through that ceiling.
