The Boston Celtics have been getting it done without a superstar this season by posting 32-23 record. So, does the team need to make a move?

The Boston Celtics are heading into the All-Star break with positive momentum after winning eight of their last 10 games. The Celtics have relied on a plethora of players this season, and for the most part they have been successful because of their team chemistry. It is no secret that the team wants a superstar on their roster to push them to the next level so they can compete with a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs, but who will they try and get?

Some Celtics’ trade rumors that have been going around involve players like Al Horford, Jeff Teague, Dwight Howard and most recently, Shabazz Muhammad. Boston has been made it pretty clear they want to make a move to improve this team by acquiring a star that can get them the big buckets they need down the stretch. Other than Horford, none of those players would truly help out the team in a big way, especially since not one of those players can really be a go-to scorer other than Horford.

Boston is currently one of the hottest teams in the NBA heading into the All-Star break and they are coming off two of their best wins of the season against Cleveland and the Los Angeles Clippers. Boston is third in the NBA in defensive rating (99.6) and ninth in offensive rating (103.5) with a team that has no superstars. So, should the Celtics really want to mess with the team’s chemistry by making a big trade before the deadline?

Boston Should Not Risk Much

The Celtics have been involved in many of the NBA trade rumors around the league because the team has many draft picks and intriguing assets. Every player is probably on the table except for Jae Crowder, Isaiah Thomas and the 2016 lottery pick from the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics should not give away Thomas, Crowder, or the Brooklyn picks unless the team is getting a game-changing superstar.

Boston should not be making any moves to break up the chemistry that this team has unless they are getting a player like Horford. Howard would be a poison to this team’s chemistry, Teague would have no place on this team, and Muhammad would be fine if you were not giving up much for him. Horford is the only move that would make sense for the team because he can help out on both ends and he would not affect the team’s chemistry because he is a low-maintenance star.

The Celtics have finally found their groove on both ends of the floor as we head into the All-Star Break and Boston is looking like a team that can advance at least past round one in the playoffs, even without making a move at the deadline.

Overall

Boston is certainly nowhere close to becoming a championship contender, and even if they made a move for a superstar like Al Horford or someone even better, the team would still not compete for a championship.

The Celtics still need to make a move in the future for a star that will hopefully attract other talented free agents to sign in Boston. But right now, the Celtics could stay put with the roster they have and maybe make an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Unless the Celtics are getting someone like Horford or a player better than Horford, Boston should not make a move.
