Providence’s Ben Bentil Headlines College Basketball’s Unsung Heroes

There are names you hear about more, but these players help the stars of college basketball stand out and provide big boosts for their teams.

The names you hear about on a daily basis in college basketball go as follows: LSU’s Ben Simmons, Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, Providence’s Kris Dunn and Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine.

Fair enough, right? These four players stand out from the rest of the nation for different reasons. Simmons does for his intangibles and being a freak athlete, Hield for his Stephen Curry-esque stat lines and shooting, Dunn and Valentine for doing absolutely everything for their teams.

While these guys may be the front runners for the national player of the year awards, the names you hear mentioned most frequently in the Wooden Award discussion, they’re not the only players in the country making waves.

In fact, they may not even be the most important player on their teams.

They may be the best players on their teams, but no one player can carry a team. Not this year and not most years in college basketball. One player may stand out, but there’s at least one player on most teams not getting the same recognition, though he may deserve just as much.

A look at five of the unsung heroes in college basketball this season, the guys doing the dirty work that doesn’t get appreciated.
