DeMar DeRozan’s name has been brought up with teams ready to throw a max contract his way this summer. Here are five reasons why he is worth it.

No matter how exciting the current NBA season is, there is always a great deal of focus on the upcoming summer and who will make the biggest splash in free agency. The new salary cap draws even more attention to the signing period because teams will have more money to throw a potential franchise-changing player’s way.

One of the players that is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and take advantage of the overload of money is Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan. A couple of seasons ago, if someone were to say that DeRozan would be a max-deal type of player, chances are you would question that individual’s knowledge.

But now with the increase in cap space along with DeRozan’s development over the years, it is pretty much guaranteed that he will ink a max contract when it’s all said and done, and with his improved skill set, it no longer seems implausible. ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are prepared to offer DeRozan the bank this summer once he hits the market.
