For most days with a decent slate of games, I’ll provide best options to return value using my basic DFS strategy, which was described here. We’ll look at Vegas totals for some guidance, but advanced NBA stats will help us find candidates from (anticipated) lower scoring games as well.

The recommended players will be sorted by FanDuel NBA salary tiers, which will enable me to present a recommended lineup or two, as well as thoughts regarding tournament (GPP) vs. cash game viability based on the number of elite players in action and the strength of their matchups.

Scheduling Observations

Although not as intimidating as the 14 games from Wednesday, a dozen contests will still provide a vast array of lineup permutations, even if many of them share the same building blocks. With that much activity, I tend to favor GPPs over cash games because the opportunity to create unique lineups can distance you from the pack if you have the winning combination.

That said, I felt as though I was making too much of an effort to hedge my bets on Wednesday, as I mixed the best suggestions (e.g. John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins) with low cost fillers (other than C.J. McCollum) that didn’t return value. This time I am going to focus more on mini-stacks from top producers, utilizing games that have a better potential to be high scoring.

Atlanta is the only one of the six teams playing Friday night coming off a back-to-back situation, as they travel home to face the Charlotte Hornets.

I’m not particularly bullish regarding the participants in this game, although I suppose newly acquired Nicolas Batum (listed at 2-guard for the Hornets even though he was mainly a small forward in Portland) has a chance to shine against the Hawks’ Kyle Korver. Batum has been a maddeningly inconsistent scorer throughout his career, and his first game in Hornets jersey (nine points/six boards/three assists) was nothing to write home about.
