It is that time of year again folks. The time when I go a little bit too in-depth into the release of the NBA 2k16 ratings than I should. I mean, the ratings of the players are not set in stone for the entire season (most change merely weeks into a new campaign), but overreacting to the new ratings is one of my favorite annual traditions. So, I must digress.

Unfortunately, I have been able to come across an actual listing of the ratings for every player on each team. However, I did find a video that scrolls through screenshots of each team with the top players on each roster revealed. Fast forward to the 1:35 for the New Orleans Pelicans roster.

Some instant impressions:

  • Anthony Davis has been given the privilege of gracing the cover of the game alongside James Harden and Stephen Curry, so it should be no surprise that his rating of 92 comes in tied for third with the aforementioned Harden.
  • Davis’s three-point grade is an F. Don’t be surprised if that changes in the near future.
  • Eric Gordon is an A+ from three!!!! Too bad his shot is damn near impossible to shoot with in the game without getting blocked. For one, it takes way too long to holster that bad boy. And secondly, his small stature in relation to other shooting guards in the game leaves him liable to getting stuffed by your annoying friend who will not stop pressing the jump button. That A+ is essentially useless.
  • I think Tyreke Evans has been rated an 80 in this game since his rookie season. Nothing more, nothing less. If for nothing else, the developers are at least consistent with their opinion of him.
  • Evans is graded out to be a better perimeter defender than Jrue Holiday… Let’s hope that that rating is just some kind of glitch or that 2k knows something that the rest of us Pelicans observers do not.
  • Omer Asik is back and being his usual boring self. Casual gamers will make no use of him unless he pulls down some random offensive rebounds before chucking the ball out of bounds because 2k tends to force big men into throwing unwarranted jump passes back out to the perimeter. Draft him in your online fantasy drafts with your friends at your own risks. Solid role player in real life, not the best 2k player.
  • Ryan Anderson always grades out to be a useful contributor in this game, but similarly to Gordon, I am usually never able to get his shot release down. Sometimes he shoots it too slow, other times too quick. There is so much potential there for 2k greatness with Anderson. I hope he and I find some chemistry this year.
  • Quincy Pondexter should be at least a 75. We live in a 2k world where Derrick Williams and Pondexter both have an overall rating of 72. Which would you rather have? (Don’t you dare try and justify Williams. Stop it.)
  • I am still mystified that Alexis Ajinca only has a rebounding rating of a B. He grabbed 11.8 per 36 minutes last season. Dude is 7’2″ and routinely gets out-rebounded by inferior players in terms of both skill and height in 2k. It is infuriating when it happens live.

Well, that concludes the in-depth reactions to the 2k ratings for the Pelicans.

Hopefully my obsession with this game will once again be justified for another season.
