When the Golden State Warriors first acquired Andre Iguodala two summers ago, they were adding a veteran presence, an excellent defender and one of the league’s best glue guys. It was an effort to bolster the defense and move the young Dubs closer to contender status. Missing Andrew Bogut hurt for the 2014 NBA Playoffs, but the Warriors weren’t contenders even with Bogut healthy.

A few months later, it felt like the Iguodala acquisition wasn’t going to work out the way everyone expected. New head coach Steve Kerr was ready to demote him to bench duty, and after watching Iguodala’s offense sail off into the sunset in 2013-14, most Dubs fans simply chose to invest their hopes in Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green as starters.

Giving up on Iggy was a mistake. Barnes and Green have worked out even better than most were expecting, but Kerr also seems to have found the key to harnessing Iguodala’s strengths as well.

Most surprising of all, he’s put Iguodala in a position to become a game-changer on the offensive end once again. Saying he’s washed up or that he only provides defense amounts to a bunch of gibberish, so it’s time to take a look at why we were wrong to forget about Dre.
