What five reasons can be given to prove that Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook should be given the MVP award for this season?

Russell Westbrook has always been thought of as one of the best players in the NBA, but he has taken his game to new levels this season. He has forced his name into the consideration for the Most Valuable Player of the Year award, and quite simply should win it assuming he is able to finish the strong.

More from Oklahoma City Thunder

Throughout the 45 games that he has played in this season, Westbrook has averaged 26.5 points, 8.1 assists, and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has also come up big on the defensive end of the court with 2.0 steals per game. There aren’t many players in the NBA that can put up those type of numbers, and Westbrook also just had a three-game stretch where he recorded triple-doubles in all three games.

At just 26 years of age, Westbrook is finally beginning to reach his full potential. This is the first year that he has shown the type of complete all-around game that would put him in the MVP conversation.

It is going to be a very entertaining end of the season, but Westbrook needs to finish strong in order to win the MVP. He has missed some games this season due to injury, the most recent being a facial fracture that left a dent in the side of his face after taking a teammates knee to the head.

What five reasons can be given to prove that Westbrook should not just be involved in the MVP conversation, but actually win the game?
