NBA: Curry, Williams Named Players of the Week
For one, it’s a story of redemption. For the other, it’s the latest step in what’s becoming an outstanding career.
For both, it’s an excellent achievement.
Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors were named the NBA’s Players of the Week.
Both were sensational.
Williams, representing the Eastern Conference, averaged 20.8 points, 7.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal in four games played. He shot above 50.0 percent in every one of those games and converted 82.6 percent of his free throws.
Brooklyn went 3-1 in one of the most efficient stretches of Williams’ recent career.
Williams is a three-time All-Star, but has been inefficient since his most recent appearance in 2012. After enduring numerous injuries and undergoing multiple surgeries, he appears to be back in form.
That’s wonderful news for the Nets.
In the Western Conference, Curry was unstoppable, averaging 30.0 points, 7.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 steals in three games played. He led the Warriors to a 2-1 record in that time frame, most notably posting 34 points in a 98-87 victory over the Houston Rockets.
This is Curry’s first career Player of the Week award.
It’s the second consecutive week in which a Golden State player has won it. Klay Thompson achieved the feat in the week prior.
That’s a franchise first.
It’s a good time to play for the Warriors.
It’s an even better time to be an NBA point guard.
