A report yesterday afternoon from Yahoo Sports announced that Kansas State freshman, Jack Karapetyan will be transferring out of the program prior to the 2014-15 season. It was announced in a brief statement on Monday by head coach Bruce Weber.

For even those who followed Kansas State basketball quite closely last season, it’s unlikely you saw much of Karapetyan last season, and even if you were able to catch a rare glimpse of him, you didn’t see much of anything that would have stood out.

More from NBA

Karapetyan played only 19 minutes total in six games before going down with a foot injury that ended his freshman season. In that brevity of time, Karapetyan scored only two points on 1-4 shooting, while grabbing only one rebound.

Those aren’t exactly the kind of numbers that scream ‘irreplaceable’ and for a guy to have such a minimal impact on a team that was quite competitive in 2013-14, his absence for the upcoming season will practically go unnoticed when you look at it from an in-game contribution standpoint.

On the unfortunate side for Kansas State, Karapetyan does have a nice upside once he finds a place within college basketball where he can develop over the next four years. Karapetyan has a deceptively nice ball handling touch to compliment his nice athleticism and shooting touch, although, his form as a shooter could definitely use some remodeling.

Luckily for Kansas State and their fans, there isn’t much to dwell on and be distraught about with the departure or Karapetyan, seeing as he never had a noticeable impact on the hardwood. But this will surely be something Wildcats’ fans will look back on and wonder ‘what if’ should he turn out to become a college star at his next basketball program of choice.

Karapetyan has not yet announced where he intends to continue his college basketball career. He has received a medical waiver, which will allow him full eligibility at whichever program he takes his talents to next.
