FIBA World Cup Day 4: Goran Dragic, Slovenia Stay Unbeaten

Goran Dragic scored 22 points and handed out four assists as Slovenia improved to 3-0 in Group D play at the FIBA World Cup in Spain Tuesday, beating Korea 89-72 in Gran Canaria.

Slovenia led just 40-39 at halftime and Korea scored twice in the opening minute of the second half to take a 43-42 on a jumper by Kim Sun-hyung 57 seconds in.

Kim Tae-sul converted a three-point play moments later to put Korea back on top 46-44.

Slovenia came back with back-to-back buckets from Dragic and Alen Omic to reclaim the lead 48-46 before Lee Jong-hyun found a lane to the basket to tie things at 48-48.

Slovenia decided it was time to assert itself.

The Slovenians went on a 12-1 run that included five points from Domen Lorbek to take a 60-49 lead with 4:47 led in the period.

A 7-0 run later in the period put Slovenia comfortably ahead 69-53 and they cruised home from there.

Slovenia led 70-56 at the end of the third quarter and was never seriously threatened by Korea (0-3) in the fourth.

Lorbek added 14 points for Slovenia, Zoran Dragic tossed in 13 while Omic went for 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jure Balazic chipped in with 11 points.

Lee led Korea with 12 points and four blocked shots. Kim Jong-kyu had a team-high six rebounds to go with four points.

Slovenia shot 49.3 percent (34-for-69), compared to 43.3 percent (26-for-60) for Korea.
