The ethics behind teams tanking a season away can be debated back and forth for days, but in today’s NBA, the reality is that what teams want are results. They want to sell out games, they want to be profitable, they want to be something fans get excited for.

Mostly, though, they want championships.

Most clubs don’t care how they get to that point. Whether it be testing the odds with the ping pong balls, cutting players to pursue big-time free agents, or flipping drafts picks and players, every team has its own method.

There are the franchises that seemingly never fall out of contention when healthy–the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and of course, the San Antonio Spurs. Obviously on the flip side, there’s the bottom feeders that have been at the bottom for some time.

The common conception about today’s NBA is that the absolute worst thing a team can be is a fringe-playoff team. For some reason, it’s been hammered into the heads of fans and media alike, but the truth is, a quick glance at the league would prove that idea untrue; fringe playoff teams are just a piece away from being a real playoff team, and likely two pieces away from being a contender.

Those teams’ futures likely have wonderful things in store. Here are 10 teams with the brightest futures ahead of them.
