NBA Free Agency 2014: Jodie Meeks, Detroit Pistons Agree
According to a tweet by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Jodie Meeks has agreed to a three-year, $19 million contract with the Detroit Pistons. He’ll join Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings and Andre Drummond in hopes of improving upon a disappointing 29-53 record in 2013-14.
Meeks played the 2013-14 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he set career highs in points per game (15.7), field goal percentage (46.3) and 3-point shooting percentage (40.1). He’ll join a Pistons team that finished No. 29 in the NBA in 3-point percentage last season, making just 32.1 percent of their attempts.

Although the Pistons could very well lose their best post player in Greg Monroe, they’ll still want to take advantage of the inside-outside game with Andre Drummond in the post.
Meeks will pair with Brandon Jennings in the backcourt, which will be filled with their fair share of offensive highlights and defensive lowlights. I’m not ready to crown them as the best offensive backcourt in basketball by any means, but it’s a solid acquisition at a bit of a premium. Unfortunately, teams like Detroit have to pay extra to entice players to sign with them.
Deals cannot be made official until July 10.
