It’s arguably the most exciting and unpredictable time of the NBA season and it began at midnight. Major moves could take days or they might manifest immediately, a whirlwind of cash and contracts that scatter veterans across the NBA landscape.
The biggest names available – LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony – will hear offers from various teams before making a choice that could be days away (NOTE: James’ last announcement, “The Decision,” took place on July 8, 2010). These two will be the first and biggest dominoes, setting off a chain reaction that could alter the league for years to come.
As rumors swirl around James’ future, fellow Heat free agents Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade also have a future in doubt. However, many in the media and in front offices throughout the NBA, think that the “Big 3” will re-sign in Miami; for how much or how long remains to be seen.
Assuming that’s the case, the Heat still have a team to build and they have a record amount of salary cap space to do it. Other solid players like Kyle Lowry, Marcin Gortat and Luol Deng are likely out of Miami’s price range. So we’ll look at some free agents, for every position, that might join James, Bosh and Wade by taking their less-prominent talents to South Beach.
