After such a successful season with the Brooklyn Nets in 2013-14, Shaun Livingston was sure to get his fair share of offers this summer as an unrestricted free agent. According to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports, the Sacramento Kings could be the first of a few suitors lining up for his services.

All of this depends on what happens with Isaiah Thomas, of course, Thomas, the current starting point guard of the Kings who averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 assists per game this season, is a restricted free agent this summer and will likely draw some decent offers from teams in need of a young, up-and-coming point guard. Sacramento would probably like to keep him if at all possible, but with Rudy Gay opting in and the Kings’ No. 8 pick still on the books, it’s highly unlikely they’ll be willing to match the kind of offer Thomas will get.

Should Thomas sign an offer sheet with another team outside Sacramento’s spending range, Livingston becomes a primary option for the Kings at the point guard position. After a horrific leg injury with the Los Angeles Clippers that had many wondering if he’d ever play again, Livingston had the best season of his career, moving into Brooklyn’s starting lineup and relieving Deron Williams of his ball handling duties, which translated into more wins for the Nets.

Livingston only averaged 8.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, but with Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins in the frontcourt, the Kings would really just need a facilitator and stabilizing presence at the point guard position, rather than the scoring-heavy kind of point guard that Isaiah Thomas is. Livingston would also represent a discount compared to the offers Thomas is most likely to get.
