The Atlanta Hawks are heading into what many expect to be a very intriguing offseason, and they are looking to sign a player or two that will help them take the next step. Atlanta lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, but they were able to take the No. 1 seed to seven games. There are three free agents that could potentially help them take that next step.

As talented as he is, the last guy I’d want to see the Hawks pursue is Lance Stephenson. Too unpredictable, too reckless. He’s just the complete opposite of what Danny Ferry and Budenholzer are trying to put together. The Hawks are all about ball movement, where Lance loves to go to his own brand of terrifying and wild iso-plays.

Deng is a great fit assuming his contract doesn’t end up too big.

Stephenson reminds me of Tony Allen, a fierce competitor who makes stupid decisions constantly. Paul George’s comments about whether he wants Lance back were priceless!

      • Adam McGee

Absolutely, George’s comments say everything that needs to be said about what it’s like to share a locker room with Lance!

The difference between Stephenson and Tony Allen is, Allen doesn’t demand the ball on the offensive end in the same way as Lance, so he doesn’t necessarily hurt his team as much.

Obviously, Lance has great talent, and can be an offensive difference maker, personally I just feel he’s not worth the rest of the baggage though.

For sure. Not many players on Memphis demand the ball….Gasol and Randolph. That might be it. I’m pretty sure Stephenson started out on the Dallas Mavericks. Lance actually seems to me like he’d fit well with Houston. Harden and him can butt heads and flop all they want. It’s sickening how many stars (not calling Tony Allen or Stephenson a star) flop. Those two and Derek Fisher even flop as role players lol.

Lance is still young though and Bud is a good coach, Ferry is a no trash taking GM, so you don’t think they could possibly reel him in, imagine the kid with a proper head on his shoulders? He has the skill set to be a top tier shooting guard in the league.
I’m not sure if they could, but what are the hawks doing better? I would take the chance while the east is still weak and even if it doesn’t pan out you are still talented enough to make playoffs.
