WOW. Are there really people out there who will argue that NCAA March Madness is more compelling than the NBA playoffs?! I understand if you enjoy college basketball more than you enjoy the NBA game, but man what a first round for the ages we just witnessed.

Five of the eight series went to a Game 7 — the NBA record for Game 7s in any playoffs is five — we had about 6 billion 4-point plays and 18,000 overtimes also; what more could you want!?

Even with all the dramatics there was really only one “upset” as the Brooklyn Nets were able to dispose of the Toronto Raptors in seven games. Yes, Washington and Portland were both lower seeds (five vs. four) but those matchups really aren’t upsets, at least to me.

Now we move on to the second round where some great individual and team matchups await. I will be featuring the top five players to watch for the conference semifinals — not necessarily the top five talent wise, but each has their own reason to be listed.
