Through four games the Western Conference Quarterfinals series between the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs and eighth-seeded Dallas Mavericks has been electric.

Dallas went ice cold to end Game 1 before blowing San Antonio out on the road and returning home to luck to go up 2-1 thanks to Vince Carter’s corner buzzer-beating 3.

Game 4 went the Spurs’ way due to veterans Manu Ginobili and Boris Diaw doing what they do best, making smart plays. Diaw’s 3-pointer with 32.7 seconds left put San Antonio ahead 90-87 and Ginobili made 3-of-4 free throws the final 10 seconds on Sunday to knot the series at two.

What came next during Game 5 was the Spurs outlasting the Mavs 109-103 despite big scoring games from Carter (28 points on 10-of-16 shooting) and Dirk Nowitzki (26 points on 10-of-20 shooting).

Yep. Looks like the good times are about over for the Mavs. They needed to win Game 4 to win this series. Now the Spurs will charge on.

The Spurs’ bench didn’t play particularly well in Game 5 so in Game 6 if they’re clicking and Duncan or Parker have a big game there may be little Dallas can do to stave off elimination. Splitter has quietly been the third or fourth best player for San Antonio in the series.
