For the past two seasons the Grizzlies have struggled on offense in a major way; the past two years, they have not averaged more than 95 points either year. Furthermore they rank dead last in pace, which is possession per game, they are at 92.3 possessions per 48 minutes. And last year they were second-to-last in pace, with only the New Orleans Hornets having a worse pace, the Grizzlies were at 91.2 possessions. Again Joerger was brought in to help speed up the Grizzlies however; they are only averaging one more possession per game. In addition, they only average 10 fast break points per game, down from the 12.6 last year. Also Memphis struggles from behind the arc; they shoot 34 percent and only make 4.8 3s per game. Compared to last season they have decreased their 3-point shooting numbers, and all this with sharp shooter Mike Miller joining the fold in the offseason. However, Miller is only shooting three shots from downtown per game, the Grizzlies need to find a way to have him shoot more with him shooting 44 percent from behind the arc. Again like the defense, the offense should improve once Gasol comes back. Gasol is the best passing big man in the game, before the injury he was averaging 4.3 assists per game and even lead the Grizzlies in assists many games this year.

More Up and Down

The last four games have been win, loss, win and loss for the Grizzlies; they continue to play up and down all season. For example, the Grizzlies went out and scored 120 points against the Denver Nuggets a week ago, then only scored 91 points against Chicago Bulls. Then on Thursday they held the high scoring Phoenix Suns to only 91 points, then the following night they gave up 111 to Denver. It is just way too much up and down this season; their record proves it at 14-18, sitting 12th in the conference. The only good news is that Marc Gasol is on his way back and should be back playing in a couple of weeks. If somehow the Grizzlies can win a few more games they could make a run into the playoffs and do some damage.
