NBA Stat Central #17: When Did That Last Happen?
On this week’s NBA Stat Central, we’re going to look at some unusual events and go back in time to find out when that happened last. We’ve had the Houston Rockets explode for 23 three-pointers, we had Kobe Bryant go from facilitator extraordinaire to zero assists and we even had Samuel Dalembert go off against the Denver Nuggets.

When was the last time…
…Steve Nash dunked?
Shooting splits have been tracked on basketball-reference.com since 2000-01. Since then, Nash has attempted just ONE dunk. The attempt came on April 5th, 2007, against the San Antonio Spurs. Although he’s one of the best shooters in NBA history, dunking has never been his strong point. He missed.
…Kobe Bryant had back-to-back zero assist games?

Bryant has had three different games during the 2012-13 season in which he’s ended without an assist. However, he’s done a terrific job of avoiding back-to-back zero assist games. The last time it happened was way back in 1998, where he posted 18 points and zero assists in a loss to the Sonics, then the next game he had 26 points with zero assists against the Nets. They lost both of those games.
…Kevin Durant scored less than five points?

This has only happened once in Durant’s young career. Back on April 4th, 2008, Durant and the Sonics faced the Houston Rockets in Seattle. They would lose an ugly game by the final score of 79-66. Durant shot just 2-for-17 and didn’t go to the free-throw line once. He ended with just four points.
…LeBron James didn’t tally a single rebound?
It’s not too often that James doesn’t get involved in every facet of the game. In fact, he’s only played three games in his career where he didn’t record a single rebound. Two of them were back in his rookie year. The only other time was November 2nd, 2010 for the Miami Heat against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He scored an easy 20 points, with 12 assists and two steals en route to a 129-97 drubbing of the Wolves.
…Anyone recorded a 6-by-5 (six points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks)?
This was a fascinating find. Since 1985-86, it’s only been done twice. The more recognized 5-by-5, which was done by Nicolas Batum on December 16th, 2012, has been done 15 times. The last 6-by-5 was by Andrei Kirilenko on January 3rd, 2006. He posted 14 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, six steals and seven blocks.
As a side note, the other 6-by-5 was by Hakeem Olajuwon, with 38 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and 12 blocks. Wow. He’s had six different 5-by-5’s, including coming one assist shy of the elusive quadruple-double.
